Clos Clare Clare Valley Riesling 2006

This tiny two-hectare vineyard was sliced off the famous Florita vineyard, now owned by Jim Barry and which once produced the Leo Buring Watervale rieslings. This is a powerful young wine with dusty lime-juice aromas, some herbs and cured hay, while the palate is very limey with superb balance and very clean lines. Drink now to 10 years. Huon Hook in the The Age, Good Weekend Australian, September 23, 2006

A small winery established in 1993, owned by Noel Kelly, with just under two hectares of Riesling. The vines are hand picked, hand pruned and dry grown. The wine is bottled under the Clos Clare label and made by Jeffrey Grosset. Clos clare comes from the last acreage of the Florita that is unirrigated and hand picked. Up until recently most of this fruit went into Grosset Watervale. Only 300 cases makes it into the Australian market.

Clos Clare is based on a small (1.5 hectares), unirrigated section of the original Florita Vineyard once owned by Leo Buring and which produces Riesling of extraordinary concentration and power. James Halliday
