The Rouge Homme label has been synonymous with quality red wines from South Australia's famous Coonawarra wine region for more than four decades. The quality and earthiness of these wines begins in the famous 'terra rossa' soils, which consistently produce wines of worldwide renown.
Vineyard Region: Coonawarra
Vintage Conditions: Dry and warm conditions in 1998 gave rise to slightly earlier ripening from lower than average crops.
Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon
Maturation: 11 months in new and used French and American hogsheads and barriques.
Bright crimson red with the density of colour expected of a Coonawarra red. The bouquet has rich, ripe plum and cassis characters with a touch of mintiness. Vanillin oak has provided a cedary complexity to the aroma. This is a typical Rouge Homme wine with classic Coonawarra earthiness. Medium to full-bodied with plum and blackcurrant fruit flavours enhanced by integrated oak. Tannins are firm but not aggressive and add structure and dimension. The resulting wine has immediate drinkability and will certainly reward careful cellaring for many years. Paul Gordon
