Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Brut Tradition NV

Egly-Ouriet’s Champagnes are so good that I have begun buying them to drink chez moi. Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate

Made from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, this cuvée contains 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. For the very first time it is non-filtered, as are all the wines. This is a big deal. We know of few who dare it. This tastes even plumper than previous cuvées, like a brioche fresh out of the even, very round and creamy, but classy too in a subtle, multifaceted way. Wow!

No one, but no one, offers you more richness and lushness than the amazing little house of Egly-Ouriet in Ambonnay. Located in the heart of the Côte de Noirs, surrounded by his 100% rated Grand Cru Pinot Noir vineyards, Michel Egly offers you the epitome of luxurious, creamy Champagne pleasure. We remind you, as usual, that this is a very small house with an international cult following. The quantities we get of some of his limited, special bottlings are pitifully small. We go to the effort to transport as little as five cases of wine a full 6,000 miles, with more paperwork than you can imagine. Try just one bottle and you will see why we do it.

The Eglys own seven hectares in Bouzy, Verzenay, and most importantly, in the heart of the Ambonnay vineyards and their beautiful south-facing slopes: "Les Crayeres," "Les Secs," "Les Feucheres," and "Les Beurys." Along with the Pinot Noir grown on the Montaigne de Reims, the house owns a good amount of Chardonnay, which is more delicate here than on the rest of the Montagne de Reims. Michel and Francis Egly-Ouriet's vines are old, forty years on average, and each parcel is vinified in small vats separately. Only the grapes intended for the vintage Champagnes are vinified together in order to obtain a more harmonious blend and to spotlight the nature of the vintage.
