Ok so there’s been a bit of talk about the 2007 Clonakilla Hilltops Shiraz … but that’s last year’s news. Time to take a look at the 2008.
Ah yes, what a joy of a drink. This has the vibrancy and spiciness that has me reaching straight for the word ‘exotic’. It’s all cherries and plums, mint and licorice, and while you’d hardly call it intense, it’s definitely high in charm. French oak gives it a gentle nudge, and everything about the wine is pure and clean. Very happy with this release; it’s a beauty. Drink : 2009 - 2014 93 points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
The indefatigable Tim Kirk, with an inexhaustible thirst for knowledge, is the winemaker and manager of this family winery founded by Tim's father, scientist Dr John Kirk. It is not at all surprising that the quality of the wines is excellent, especially the Shiraz Viognier, which has paved the way for numerous others to follow, but remains the best example in Australia.
