Cape Mentelle Margaret River Shiraz 2007

Woohoo! Cape Mentelle '07 Shiraz just awarded Best Shiraz, Best 2007 Red, Best Dry Red, Best WA red and Best WA Wine at the 2009 Perth Royal Show

Dense crimson-purple; spicy fruit aromas on the bouquet, then a voluptuous palate with multiple flavours of spice, licorice and both red and black fruits; exemplary oak and tannin support. Screwcap. Drink 2027 96 points James Halliday

This Cape Mentelle Shiraz just scooped the pool at the Royal Perth Wine Show. Readers of the Big Red Wine Book will, of course, already have heard how good this wine is. Medium-bodied but with great depth of flavour. Notes of pepper, choc-licorice, blueberry and high-quality, spicy French oak. Its tannins are peppery, but everything here is ripe, solid and highly polished. Fabulous wine. Drink : 2010 - 2020 96 points Gary Walsh, The Wine Front

Part of the LVMH (Louis Vuitton Möet Hennessy) group. Cape Mentelle is firing on all cylinders with the winemaking team now fully capitalising on the extensive and largely mature vineyards, and which obviate the need for contract-grown fruit. It is hard to say which of the wines is best; the ranking, such as it is, varies from year to year. That said, Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon lead the portfolio. Exports to all major markets. James Halliday

Cape Mentelle Shiraz takes inspiration from the techniques and wines of France’s Northern Rhône Valley. Traditional fermentation and maturation in both large oak vats and small barriques is aimed at retaining the refi ned fruit and fl oral characters of the variety along with the more savoury, spicy elements derived from the vineyard.
