Valminor Albarino 2007

Adegas Valmiņor uses purchased fruit from two prime growing areas. Their current vineyard sources are 40% Cambados and 60% Arbo fruit (a unique micro-climate that is a touch warmer than other areas). The Cambados region is located on the coast and provides acidity and freshness to the wine. Together the two fruit sources make a superb blend. Valmiņor means minor valley and today Valmiņor has built a new winery in Rosal.

"This aromatic, highly acidic white wine from the Rias Baixas section in northwestern Spain was indubitably made for seafood dishes of that region. Imagine lemons mixed with white pepper, and you can sense how the involved layers would evolve into quite a mouthful. Nashville Wine Press

Albarino is a rare white wine unique to Spain and northern Portugal. The vineyards are in the northwest corner of Spain, specifically in the area called the Rias Baixas in Galicia. The grapes are especially thick skinned so that it is difficult to extract. It produces rich wines with complex flavours which are some of the most highly prized white wines in Spain.

Valminor Albarino is from o rosal. It is a light, dry wine with surprisingly complex flavours. The aroma is floral with peaches and honeydew melon. In the mouth, it is tongue-tickling with its slight effervescence, but is very dry. It is bright with a lingering finish. Floral, blossomy with grapefruit, preserved lemon, white melon and flinty minerals. Very good touch of clean pith/phenolic and creamy lees enhances mouthfeel wihtout sacrificing taughtness and nerve. It has a great balance, it is tight wtih fine minerality. It is great served with lighter dishes like tapas, grilled fish or Spanish cheeses.
