Very intense nose of blackberry and ripe plums, some spice, cola with some light florals. Ripe and juicy in the mouth, showing the heat of the vintage. Very concentrated dark berry fruit, with some coffee and cola type flavours. Good finish. The 15% alc is well hidden. I think this needs a bit more time in the cellar. 91 Pts. Dave Worthington, Tinto y Blanco
A member of the Vega Sicilia family, this wine was a secret in the making for some years and like a good Get Smart' movie, it went under the code name 'Alquiriz'. It was finally released commercially with the 2001 vintage and finally given the name Pintia. Toro (which is near the Portuguese border along the Duero river) has been labeled the 'next big thing' by many in the spanish wine industy. The wine is 100% Tinta de Toro, the superior local clone of Tempranillo and is aged 1 year in new oak (70% French, 30% American). Anthony D'Anna
