Absolute cabernet. Medium-bodied, curranty, swishily aromatic and then dry and tannic through the finish, a range fo herbs, spices and fruits offered up along the way. A wine of great appeal. Dried herbs, tobacco, blackcurrant, cedar, perhaps even a touch of vanillin - this has all the goods. It's no blockbuster; it's just a great drink. Drink: 2007-2014. 92 points. I hastily slung a foamy into my luggage on route to NZ so that I could keep the trickle of notes going this week. Lincoln is on his summer holiday and David is flat chat doing vineyardy things. I know a bad workman blames his tools but I am tasting this with very ordinary glasses. It does make a big difference. I have not had much experience with Rymill cabernet but from this tasting I can tell you that I do find this more restrained savoury style very attractive. This is due for a February release. Diam cork. Excellent. I may try another bottle on release just to be thorough as this one has had some pretty rough treatment.
Slightly developed colour. Aromas of plum, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf and earth with dusty vanilla oak. On the palate medium to full bodied with flavours of plum, cherry liqueur, coffee, black olive and pencilly oak. Dry and savoury with fine ripe powdery tannins. Finishes dry with black olive and lightly gamey flavours. A wine of considerable finesse and style that should appeal greatly to the Bordeaux enthusiast. 2007 - 2014+ 92 points Gary Walsh, Winorama
