Chrismont La Zona King Valley Arneis 2008
Arneis is still relatively unknown among Australian consumers, but an increasing number of wines made from this mysterious Italian grape are appearing on the shelves. RALPH KYTE-POWELL
Arneis is slowly becoming one of the specialties of the King Valley, where the Italian grape-growing clan know just how good some of these grape varieties are. Arneis is a fruity wine full of apples, pears and a terrific freshness. It is a wine to drink young and chilled so that the acid and fresh flavours can be enjoyed. MARYANN EGAN in Essentials Magazine
ARNEIS is never going to set the wine market ablaze with its popularity but good Arneis certainly has a place for its balance and elegance. This Australian version of an Italian variety is just so good with better fruit flavours, good balance and cleaner winemaking--this wine also has relatively low (12.4 per cent) alcohol, which is consistent with the Italian real thing. Delicate, dry aromas and flavours of pear, white peach, with lovely minerality on the palate, this is a much better food wine than 95 per cent of sauvignon blancs! DAVID SUTHERLAND in Border Mail,
