Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 1998 Curiously, the only wine made by Penfolds every vintage from Coonawarra grapes and sold in the Australian market (there are some export labels). No less curious was the lacklustre performance (by Penfolds standards and given the reputation of Coonawarra) of the wine until 1986. However, since then the wine has taken a distinct turn for the better, which is as it should be. It is one of the few wines in the Penfolds range which is matured entirely in French oak, 20 per cent new and 80 per cent one and two years old.  - James Halliday
