Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz 2005 1.5lt Magnum
It's been a red drinkers favourite for a long time now, though arguably the interest in it has skyrocketed over the past 3-5 years. This 2005 release is an interesting one - my first reaction was that they'd stuffed it up. It's a cooler wine than the last couple of releases, less sweet and more spicy, with meaty, gravelly, minty, twiggy edges and, as it opens up, quite a bit of muscular tannin. The quality is still very high, but it is going to polarise opinion even more than it usually does - which is saying something. Essentially though this is a dry, balanced, spicy wine with a clip of creamy oak and a nice centre of blackberried fruit, firm tannins and a spicy finish emphasising its savoury class. If you can, try before you buy - it has a twiggy bitterness on the finish that is love/hate. Drink: 2011-2018. 92 points. Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front

Talking about another great label, Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz is one of the most sought after wines in the market place. Quality to price ratio is amazing. How do you do it?
Several years ago we started rebuilding Seppelt. The only way to rebuild Seppelt was to put it in the bottle and let the wines do the advertising. It's an old fashion approach but we are committed to putting exceptional wines in the bottle, so that whenever you buy a Seppelt wine it will deliver an amazing quality to price ratio, a ratio that we feel is without parallel in the Australian wine industry (We of course are very biased).
The secret to the Chalambar Shiraz which applies equally to all our wines, is our vineyards, we have some of the best vineyards in Victoria. They are a mixture of grower and company owned vineyards but they have two things in common, they are all run by dedicated, passionate people and produce delicious, spicy lifted berry fruit. Our winemaking is tailored to this fruit, we have a great winery run by an equally dedicated and passionate team, you see it in all our wines from the Trophy wining Victorian Shiraz to St.Peters.
This is another wine that was originally made by Colin Preece in 1951, which has gone on to win many accolades in the Australian Show System. The fruit for the Seppelt Chalambar Shiraz is sourced from the Grampians and Bendigo, the Grampians providing elegant fruit with concentrated blueberry and black pepper notes, and Bendigo offering more cherry and red fruit flavours. As mentioned above, the vintage was excellent, producing a wine with delicious layers of flavour and great cellaring potential.
