Peter Lehmann Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
The third consecutive great vintage in the Barossa following on from 2004 and 2005 is fulfilling the winemakers’ expectations for producing red wines of exceptional quality. Sourced from Specially selected small individual Barossa Cabernet vineyards. The colour is deep red with a dense black centre, and the nose gives tantalising aromas of chocolate, blackcurrants, with hints of nutmeg, cloves and star anise. It is a beautifully rich Cabernet with superb depth of seamless fruit. A supple wine, it is lively and inviting and finishes satisfyingly firm. A wonderful drop, indeed. Peter Lehmann wines
One of the world’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon values, …"Robert Parker, Wine Advocate Oct 2002.
When once asked why the Barossa could make so many different wines, Peter Lehmann replied, "Because we can!" – testament to the Barossa’s viticultural heritage, its ability to excel across a variety of wines and its reputation as Australia’s greatest winemaking region. Our love of wine and art and the diverse character of these wines have inspired us to distinguish each label with one of the many faces of the Queen of Clubs who is symbolic of the brave gamble Peter Lehmann took to build his winery in 1979.
Our Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon has been recognised all over the world as one of Australia’s great Cabernet Sauvignon styles. The 1993 Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded the trophy for Best Cabernet in the World at the International Wine and Spirit Competition. Respected American wine critic Robert Parker Jnr is also an admirer and stated in the October 2002 edition of Wine Advocate that Peter Lehmann Cabernet is "One of the world’s finest Cabernet Sauvignon values, …"
Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the Barossa produces beautifully structured wines noted for their longevity and the handsome reward they give to those who choose to cellar these wines.
As a young man Peter Lehmann (pictured with Andrew Wigan and Doug Lehmann) worked at Yalumba during the 1940s, beginning a lifetime of achievement in the Barossa Valley. He is one of the most important characters in the Barossa. The son of a Lutheran pastor, Lehmann kept the spirit alive during periods of severe economic downturn. His reward is access to some of the very best fruit in the Barossa Valley. With a reputation for making quality Shiraz since the 1950s, Lehmann’s winemaker, Andrew Wigan, represents in winemaking terms a blend of traditional thought and modern practice. - Andrew Caillard MW
Made in typical modern Barossa Valley style, with sweet, ripe cabernet fruit swathed in a gown of American vanilla-accented oak, and the tannins held in restraint. - James Halliday
