Ata Rangi Martinborough Pinot Noir 2009

Best New Zealand Pinot Noir. ... The perfumed, light, sweet rose petals are here - really sweet and alluring - along with plenty of ripe red-cherry fruits and all manner of fine-dusted spices scattered throughout. The palate sweeps out a web of finely meshed tannin that has incredible depth, yet carries an immense sense of delicacy and elegance. Bright cherry flavours run the gamut, there's some toasty French oak built into the mix, and the whole lot lifts effortlessly through the finish, leaving a tangy, balanced impression. Superb, once again."- Nick Stock, The Good Wine Guide 2011. 97 points

Sourced largely from the oldest home blocks now reaching 29 years of age, Abel (aka the ‘Ata Rangi’ clone) is predominant, but Clone 5 (or Pomard) and Dijon clones 114, 115 and 667 play important supporting roles. We recommend serving Pinot Noir at around 16 to 18 oC, and enjoy slowly, savouring the layers of flavour as the wine slowly warms and unfolds in the glass. Also consider decanting when the wine is very young, an hour or two. Ata Rangi Wines

Ata Rangi Pinot noir ranks among New Zealand’s most illustrious reds, with an international reputation for its outstanding complexity and richness" Michael Cooper, Sunday Star Times 13 Jul 03

I certainly enjoyed some fine Pinot Noirs in Martinborough………but if I could only bring one bottle home it would be the exotic beauty from Ata Rangi. None could match its wild cherry and spice aromas, vibrant cherry fruits and long, rich finish." Charles Gill, Daily News New Plymouth

Our premium Pinot is largely sourced from the oldest home blocks, now with up to 26 years of vine age. Abel (aka the ‘Ata Rangi’ clone) is predominant, but the Dijon selections (114, 115. 667) and Clone 5 also play very important roles.
