Winstead Sticky Riesling 2005
6 BOTTLES AVAILABLE.
The good news about Winstead is the outstanding quality of its extremely generous and rich Pinot Noirs, rivalling those of Freycinet for the abundance of their fruit flavour without any sacrifice of varietal character. The bad news is that production is so limited, with only half a hectare each of riesling and pinot noir being tended by fly-fishing devotee Neil Snare and wife Julieanne. James Halliday
A small town barely 35 minutes from Hobart, Bagdad lies at the edge of Tasmania's famous Southern Midlands district. Once a home to mixed grazing and farming, its rolling countryside has undergone a subtle transformation in recent times. For some it has become a quiet place of refuge, a place, a world away from the humdrum of nearby city life. We count ourselves among that lucky few. Originally conceived as a hobby, our family run vineyard began its life in 1989 with the polanting of 2000 Pinot Noir and 1000 Riesling vines. Further plantings in 1993 bought these up to 3000 and 2000 vines respectively. Just a stone's throw away from the busy Heritage Highway that connects northern and southern Tasmania, it sits atop a modest hill on Winstead Road, enjoying a bright north-easterly aspect.
