A quite extraordinary family winery which has grown up from an insignificant base in 1960 to become one of the most influential mid-sized companies, successfully competing with wines running all the way from cheap, volume-driven Long Flat White up to the super-premium Vat 47 Chardonnay, which is one of Australia's best.
First made in the appalling vintage of 1971, sharing with the Craigmoor wine of the same year the honour of being the first Chardonnay labelled as such and sold this century. Has since unequivocally stamped itself as one of the great marques, enjoying a more or less unending stream of trophies and gold medals. – James Halliday
