Schloss Lieser Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Spatlese 2007
The nose is stunning as it soars from the glass in a melange of lime, pear, apple, wild yeast tones, a touch of fresh fig, lovely deep soil tones and a bit of lime blossom in the upper register. On the palate it is delicate and utterly refined, with beautiful filigree, fine acids and lovely length and grip. 94 points John Gilman
Herby, oregano nose. So racy! Very delicate. Cut like a diamond – so crystalline. Very well done! Score: 17.5++/2009-16 Jancis Robinson
"Thomas Haag, older son of celebrated Brauneberg vintner Wilhem Haag, acquired the neglected property of Schloss Lieser in 1992 and has already brought it to the threshold of Germany’s Riesling elite, in the process gaining recognition for the unjustly forgotten Niederberg Helden vineyard. Since the recent acquisition of choice parcels in Brauneberg, one can compare the Schloss Lieser style with that of Thomas Haag’s father and brother. One will find that these wines – very much the products of a risk-taking mentality in vineyards and cellar – have an opulence all their own, but demand patience, for youthful fermentative and yeasty overtones and unabashed sweetness sometimes mask their outstanding potential. As a Mosel Riesling 101, incidentally, it is hard to beat Schloss Lieser’s consistently fine basic estate Riesling." -- Parker’s Wine Buyer’s Guide No.7
