Quinta do Vale Meão Vintage 2007
Dark, rich and not so dissimilar to Quinta Vale D. Maria 2007 tasted immediately before it but with a bit more stuffing. Interesting, herby - non classic. More like souped-up table wine but very satisfying and well balanced. Drink 2015-25 17.5 points Jancis Robinson
"Intense aromas of creme de cassis, blackberry and wet earth. Full-bodied, with medium sweetness and a solid core of dense, polished tannins. It goes on for minutes. Structure with harmony. A very serious effort from this mighty wine estate. —J.S." James Suckling, Score 93-96 points Wine Spectator
50% Touriga Nacional/40% Touriga Franca/10% Tinta Roriz. Knockout nose of explosive sweet licorice, herbs and blackcurrant pastille fruit ripe, black with a thrill of sourberry. The palate is sweet, ripe and open with amazing fruit topped’n’tailed by spice and chocolate. There’s also the sooty-mineral tang of the terroir. Great fleshy-velvety volume, and really excellent tannin-acid framing. Incredibly precise, profound and restrained.
The Quinta itself, one of the easternmost on the Douro, has a long Port history stretching back to the 1870s but has more recently made a name for its still Douro reds. The term "Meandro" refers to a meandering bend in the river on which the Quinta is situated. The Portuguese appellation of the wine is Douro DOC.
