Something strange is happening to the price of Penfolds Bin 407 cabernet … but enough carping about price. To the wine …
This is a fine, elegant, well-ripened wine of medium-weight and medium quality. It tastes of olives and blackcurrant and spicy, cedary, musky French oak. It has fresh, varietal appeal and a nice clip of tannin. It was a difficult vintage and they’ve produced a decent wine from it. There’s a musky, vanillin note to the aftertaste that is pure Penfolds. I’d expect it to score slightly higher in time. Drink : 2012 - 2017 91+ Points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
