Dalla Mia Finestra Shiraz Malbec 2008
Includes 12% Malbec in the blend sourced as a one off from Yarra Yering – and I think you can taste the difference. Total production is 75 dozen.
Redcurrant jelly, liquorice, pepper, a touch of mint and light vanilla oak. It’s medium weight and appears deceptively svelte and silky, but swish it round your mouth and the fine tannin grips nicely. Excellent flavour, although still young and slightly raw, it improved markedly over a couple of days – as did the score. A charming wine. And something a bit different too. Drink : 2012 - 2018 93 POINTS The Wine Front
Finestra's vines were planted in 1989 with a further extension in 1996. Currently, a total of seven acres are committed to chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz. Further small plantings of merlot and malbec are planned in the near future to provide blending material and add further complexity to the cabernet wines.
Vineyard soils are comprised of light grey loams over a clay base, interspersed by patches of iron stone "buckshot" and siltstone. Elevation ranges from 90 to 120 metres above sea level over the 500 metre span of the vineyard.
