Seppelt Dorrien Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

The Dorrien vineyard contains seven hectares of 56-year-old vines that consistently produce full-bodied wines with distinctive character. Exceptional parcels of fruit from the 1998 vintage have created great depth of ripe berry flavour. The 1998 Dorrien will age beautifully and reward careful cellaring.

Regional Source: Seppelt Dorrien Vineyard, in the Barossa Valley, South Australia.

Vintage Conditions: The start of the growing season was quite dry. However by August, good rains gave the vines the perfect prelude to budburst just before the weather dried out again in October, remaining that way right up until harvest. Harvest went well overall and the quality of the grapes was exceptionally high.

Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Maturation: This wine was barrel aged for fourteen months in a combination of new French and American hogsheads.

A full-bodied wine that has as much fruit as it does oak. The 98 Dorrien is rich in concentrated berry fruit and strong in varietal character, all of which is balanced to perfection with well-integrated American Oak. Firm tannins, excellent structure and a pleasing length of flavour. Peak Drinking 2007-2017’, Ian McKenzie, Winemaker.
