Moscato d'Asti is one of the gems of Italian winemaking, and Castiglione Tinella is one of its traditional strongholds. The dense, well-ordered vineyards of this commune include some of the most prestigious crus of the DOC. The Dogliotti family has been the undisputed leader here for years, thanks to the pioneering work of Redento Dogliotti (re-inventor of "plain cork" Moscato) which is now continued by his son Romano. La Caudrina is a property of no inconsiderable size, with dozens of hectares of estate-owned vineyards and a well-equipped winery specially designed to make this aromatic dessert wine. The Moscatos are produced in two versions, Caudrina and Galeisa, both highly consistent, top quality Moscatos. The 1993 vintage saw the addition of an Asti Spumante called La Selvatica, a courageous gamble in a field dominated by the big names of sparkling wine mass production.
