McWilliams Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon 2001
'McWilliam's Elizabeth and the glorious Lovedale Semillon are generally commercially available with many years of bottle age and are undervalued and underpriced treasures with a consistently superb show record. The three individual vineyard wines, together with the Maurice O'Shea memorial wines, add to the lustre of this proud name.
Now named after the Lovedale Vineyard from which it comes, but in earlier times called 'Anne'. Only released when fully mature, and then only from exceptional vintages. The 1984 vintage, which has won innumerable trophies and gold medals, was not released until 1995, and will live for another decade at least. Simply a superb wine. The 1986 is another magnificent wine, festooned with trophies and gold medals. The '95 is the first release since 1986; for obscure reasons, the Lovedale material was incorporated into Elizabeth in the intervening years.
