McWilliam’s flagship Mount Pleasant wines, Maurice O’Shea Shiraz and Maurice O’Shea Chardonnay, are named in honour of Mount Pleasant’s founding winemaker. The legendary Maurice O’Shea is today widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the modern Australian wine industry.
The super-premium Maurice O’Shea Shiraz is made exclusively from 120-year-old vines grown on Mount Pleasant’s Old Hill Vineyard. This revered vineyard was established in the 1880s by the King family, and was purchased by O’Shea in 1921.
First made in 1987 in honour of the master winemaker Maurice O'Shea. Produced only in better vintages, and is sourced entirely from the Old Hill Vineyard planted in the 1880s by the King family, and purchased by Maurice O'Shea in 1921. The grapes are cold-macerated prior to the onset of fermentation, and the completion of primary fermentation and malolactic fermentation takes place in American oak hogsheads, in which the wine remains for 18 months before being bottled.
