Stonier was one of the first wineries to bring pinot noir to the Australian masses - or that’s my take, anyway. It’s certainly the case in Victoria. In Victorian bottle shops there was a period when Stonier and Scotchmans Hill were the only decent affordable pinot noir available. And maybe Coldstream Hills too. Ahhh memories.
Yes this is a nice release. It’s tangy and variety, has nice texture and sound, fruity length. It says something about how far Australian pinot noir has come, that we can (almost) take a wine like this for granted. Once it probably would have caused a stir. The centre is cherried, strawberried and sweet-sour, the finish mineral and structured. Excellent drinking and worth buying. Drink : 2009 - 2014 91 points Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
