Seppelt Great Western Reserve Shiraz 1998

The Great Western area in Western Victoria has developed a passionate relationship with shiraz. The warm, mild climate produces wines of elegance, concentration and a complex flavour profile.
The Seppelt Great Western vineyard has for over 100 years, provided exemplary grapes for both sparkling reds and dry reds. The shiraz vines are now over 40 years old and this wine is a glimpse into one of Victoria's, and Australia's outstanding viticulture regions.
Vineyard Region: Great Western
Vintage Conditions: The growing season was dry, however by December, the vines were very healthy, helped by well-spaced rainfalls. Flowering and fruit set were successful. The summer remained very dry, but without extreme heat. Vintage started early and took place without problems and shiraz was once again magnificent; the fourth year in a row that it had delivered fruit of outstanding quality.
Maturation: The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak hogsheads.
