Immensely powerful and concentrated, yet not the least jammy or alcoholic. Glorious blackcurrant, spice, earth and bitter chocolate; fine, long tannins; very good oak management. High quality cork. Rating 96 To 2021 Date Tasted Mar 05 James Halliday
A deep, closed, brooding and rather old-fashioned wine with dark, minty aromas of cassis, plums and violets tightly knit with sweet vanilla and cedary oak. It’s long, very firm and tight-fisted, with a dark, powerful core of concentrated fruit firmly wrapped around an astringent spine of drying, powdery tannin. Give it plenty of time to breath if you’re thinking of opening it before it’s really ready. (Frankland River, 91 points, drink 2015-2023) Jeremy Oliver
His creative genius influenced a remarkable 51 consecutive vintages at Houghton, with his life's work utlminating in an MBE in recognition of his achievements and dedication to Western Australian wine industry. Jack's greatest individual creation was Houghton White Burgundy in 1937. In honour if Jack, Houghton produces a full bodied, powerful, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Houghton Jack Mann is simply the very best of Western Australia, a wine that echoes Jack's own belief that wines should be "resplendent with generosity".
