A distinguished estate with a proud, even if relatively short, history. Long renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon, its repertoire has steadily grown with the emphasis on single varietal wines. The style overall is fruit- rather than oak-driven. Many great Leconfield Cabernet Sauvignons have appeared over the years, the '78 and '80 vintages being landmarks of the time (made by octogenarian Sydney Hamilton, Leconfield's founder). Some of the vintages from the early '90s tended to show pronounced herbaceous/dimethyl sulphide characters which will appeal to some more than others. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. James Halliday
