Henriot Brut Sovereign Non Vintage

We had this last night and this bottle was beautiful. Full and rich, almost creamy with biscuit, yeast and well balanced by some brisk acidity. Probably the best sub $100 fizz I have had this year. $80 94 points Anthony D'Anna

The NV Brut Souverain is a somewhat taut, focused wine with good definition in its aromas and flavors. This Pinot Noir dominated Champagne shows excellent length as well as a crisp, refreshing finish, even if slightly grainy elements suggest a touch of under-ripeness in the fruit. Though not the last word on complexity, the Brut Souverain is a lovely effort in its category. The NV Brut Souverain is 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Disgorged: 4th quarter 2008. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2013. 87 points  Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate # 186 Dec 2009

This is an impressive set of new releases from Henriot, an historic estate that seems to be experiencing a resurgence in quality. All of this house’s Champagnes see full malolactic fermentation, yet retain an element of cut and verve that gives the best wines impeccable balance. Antonio Galloni Wine Advocate # 186 Dec 2009

Founded in 1808, Henriot is one of the oldest "Maisons of Champagne". The ancestors were originally wine and wool merchants. Following the death of her husband, the widow Appoline Godinot managed to keep the business flourishing with prestigious clients such as the illustrious Kings of Holland and then the Austria-Hungarian Emperor. The Henriot family still managed the Maison and its vast vineyard of over 100 hectares which is mainly composed of the Chardonnay grape. The sovereign brut is composed of two white grape varieties: 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, combined the two grape varieties make a truly authentic champagne. It is vigorous, very dry (10g dosage) with complex aromas which the connoisseur would recognise to be characteristic of some of the top quality crus of Champagne. The use of the "vins de reserve" (mature wines) in the final blending process guarantees a continuity in the distinct Henriot taste.
