Majella Coonawarra Shiraz 2005
3 BOTTLES AVAILABLE.
This is a beauty. It's dense and luscious and yet very finely honed - it's a gorgeous, strong face, all bones and structure and charm. Plums, chalk, chocolate, the odd flash of cedar and the odd rise of mint. It's impeccable - and deliciously integrated. Really impressive wine. Drink: 2010-2018. 94 points Campbell Mattinson, The Winefront
Majella is one of the more important contract grape growers in Coonawarra, with 55 hectares of vineyard, principally shiraz and cabernet sauvignon, and with a little riesling and merlot in production and now fully mature. Common gossip has it that part finds its way into the Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon and Michael Shiraz, or their equivalent within the Southcorp Group. Production under the Majella label is increasing as long-term supply contracts expire. James Halliday
First made in 1991, although the estate vineyards are 30 years old. Has the pick of the crop, as it were, from 22 hectares of estate plantings.James Halliday
The Majella Shiraz first appeared in 1991 and has since acquired a reputation as one of Coonawarra's finest Shiraz's.
