Under the benevolent ownership of the Swiss/Californian Hess Group, Peter Lehmann has continued to flourish, making wines from all the major varieties at multiple price points, the common link being over-delivery against expectations. Its record with its Reserve Eden Valley Riesling (usually released when 5 years old) is second to none, and it has refined and refined its semillons to the point where it can take on the Hunter Valley at its own game with 5-year-old releases, exemplified by the 2002 Reserve Semillon. At the base level, the Semillon is the largest seller in that category in the country. Yet it is as a red winemaker that Peter Lehmann is best known in both domestic and export markets, again with some outstanding wines leading the charge. Exports to all major markets. James Halliday
