Unlabelled Clare Valley 'Odd's On' Shiraz 2009
There have b een many outstanding vintages in the last 15 years. Vintage 1990, 1996 and 1998 automatically spring to mind. However, more recently we have seen vintage 2009 being added to this list. What does this have in common with our Unlabelled wines we offer? Everything.
Not only does Boccaccio source our Unlabelled wines from Australia's best producers, but we also aim to purchase the best possible vintages on offer. It is fair to say that this time we have hit the jackpot. Not only have we sourced this wine from the producer who brought us the now famous 'At Odd's', but we have been lucky enough to purchase a substantial quantity of their 2009 vintage Clare Valley Shiraz. This producer is not only renwoned in Australia for his red wines (Shiraz and Riesling in particular) but has a massive international following.
Boccaccio have always been quite modest in regards to boasting about our quality of our Unlabelled wines. You don't survive in such a cut throat industry for 40 years by making claims that you cannot back up. Hence, when we say that we have something quite unbelievable from the Clare Valley (very much like our At Odd's), believe us. This wine is from the same producer as our famed At Odd’s with the difference being that this wine is from a different vineyard source in Clare. I rate this as a better wine that the 2004 vintage Against all Odd’s. Vintage 2006 in the Clare Valley will be remembered as one of the greatest vintages for this region and I’m sure our 2009 Unlabelled Clare Valley ‘Odd’s On’ will be one of the great bargains from this region.
The price you may ask? Well, a measly $8.00 a bottle. To give you a clue of the calibre of wines it is up against, I will list a few. Woodleys Queen Adelaide, Lindemans Cawarra, Yalumba Oxford Landing. At $8.00 use it as your pizza wine but please don't forget that it is a serious wine from a very good producer. I would decant or let this wine breathe for at least a couple of hours as it is quite a big, extracted wine. aNTHONY D'Anna
