Macallan 12 year old Single Malt Whisky
According to D Matheson's "The Placenames of Elginshire", from 1905, the name Macallan itself is a very old one, which can be traced as far back as the time of the introduction of the Christian faith into Scotland. The flagship of The Macallan whisky range in the UK market;
"...the Macallan 10 Years Old has become a benchmark for single malt whisky of the highest quality..."
Like all of The Macallan family, the 10 Years Old is matured exclusively in oak sherry casks from Spain to deliver a deep, rich, deliciously smooth and well-rounded flavour with a slight sweetness and touch of sherry and wood. Macallan Whisky is a deep colour, like that of all its siblings, which is achieved wholly and naturally without the addition of any colouring.
This is The Macallan whisky we all know and love (in the UK). At ten years it is fully developed: vanilla, raisins, spices and lots of esters. No need to say more, a lovely whisky. The 1982 vintage displays the impeccable pedigree of 18 Years Old Macallan whisky of which critics have long been consistent and loud in their praise. The Macallan's benchmark excellence is nowhere more evident than in the 18 Years Old expression. Due to the unfailing regularity with which it wins, we no longer include The Macallan 18 year old whisky in our malt tasting. We have instead enshrined it in our hall of fame.
This sublime spirit enjoys a cult following in some of the finest bars in the world where demand for the precious malt continually outstrips supply. Rated 100 out of 100 by the Beverage Institute of Chicago in 1999. My personal favourite is the Macallan whisky. The 10 year old is marvellous; the 18 year old is superb, while the 25 year old is sensational.
