Sometimes you just have to be lucky. Every year Boccaccio has an annual pilgrimige over to the the Clare Valley to source Shiraz for our unlabelled wines. However, never did we think we would be able to get our hands on some Cabernet Sauvignon that was every bit as good as our Clare Valley Shiraz. In a twist of fate, a long-term grower to one of australia's premium wine producers tapped me 'under the table' at dinner in clare one night and told me he had a block of Cabernet that was just amazing. After looking at the block, we made a desision on the spot to take as much Cabernet as he could possibly give us. The result is our first Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon aptly titled Unlabelled Clare Valley 'Under the Table' Cabernet Sauvignon 2002.
This Clare Valley cabernet is so disctinctive. Deep red with purple edges. This wonderfully ripe varietal cabernet from a great year has loads of cassis and mint which are backed by more dark berry fruits, toasty oak and chewy tannins. It is solidly structured wine on the palate with an masses of blackberry fruits assisted by a firm tannin backbone. Like any good Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, this will benefit with time in the cellar.
