Jim Barry McRae Wood Shiraz 2005

Jumps out of the glass with cassis, blackberry, raspberry, liquorice allsorts, mint and some spicy toasty oak. Beautiful smelling wine. On the palate full bodied and intense with flavours of raspberry coulis, cassis, blackberry, mint and licorice. Really good vibrant fruit with some leather/bitter chocolate characters adding interest and spicy toasty vanilla oak in support. It has fine grained tannin, a nice fresh mouthfeel and some warmth from alcohol that’s a bit intrusive but not over-bearing. Finishes with spice and liquorice flavours. Packs a magnum of flavour into 750ml without looking clumsy. Drink : 2012 - 2020 93 points Gary Walsh, Winorama

The 2004 Shiraz "The McRae Wood"spent 17 months in predominantly American oak and was bottled unfiltered. It is a glass-coating inky purple with an expressive bouquet of pain grille, pepper, pencil lead, bacon, and blueberry. Intense, mouth-filling and structured, it will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020. 91 points Jay Miller Wine Advocate # 173 Oct 2007

Ranks second to The Armagh Shiraz in terms of price, and first released in 1992. As with The Armagh, it is based upon scrupulous fruit selection and shows the well-handled use of oak. Whereas The Armagh needs decades, this wine only needs ten to fifteen years. James Halliday
