Fermoy Estate Margaret River Shiraz 2003 The fruit is sourced from two vineyards in Margaret River. The 2003 vintage was a solid vintage and this wine is typical of the variety in Margaret River.Fruit for this wine has been trained to a Vertical Shoot Positioned trellis system with extensive canopy management techniques employed throughout the growing season to allow us to harvest the best possible fruit. Deep crimson in colour. Lovely raisiny fruit. Flavours of liquorice complemented by some fine French oak that weave together a palate that is rich and flavoursome. The wine has fine structure with chalky tannins. Consistently produces wines with a particular character and style, with the focus away from primary fruit and into secondary flavours, with strong structure; the Americans would call them 'food styles'. Quite deliberately out of the mainstream, but seeking to rejoin it in the wake of a change of ownership. James Halliday Bright crimson in colour. Intensely lifted aromatics displaying regional mintiness and black cherry liqueur characters. Palate is firm with aniseed and chocolate flavours supported by fine silky tannins. Excellent current drinking and cellar over the next decade.
