2013 was an outstanding vintage in the Napa Valley, and this wine is by no means an exception to the rule. This full-bodied red hailing from the Oakville AVA, from two acres in St. Helena, comprises predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. In essence a museum release, this wine is drinking splendidly now, but will certainly benefit from an extended period in the cellar.

Oh those tannins. We’re mining a rich seam of Napa tannin here, fleshy and minerally, saturating and teasing the palate. Aside that, yes, a dried rose perfume, some mint fragrance, raspberry and blackberry, with mocha and nougat oak in firm support. Succulent, fleshy, satisfying and very long. It’s still fairly primal right now, and while flush with the beauty of youth, its best years are well before it. Smoking.
