The Custodian is d’Arenberg’s tribute to McLaren Vale’s historic old-vine Grenache — a variety they’ve championed for generations. In the early 1980s, while others pulled up old Grenache vines, d’Arry Osborn refused — and his son Chester built on that legacy, earning the winery its ‘Custodian’ title by preserving nearly one-third of the region’s old bush vine Grenache today.
The 2008 vintage brings a tale of two seasons: a cool start delivering bright acidity and balance, followed by a burst of heat that ripened Grenache to lush, ripe perfection.
Hand-picked, foot-trodden and basket pressed, The Custodian was matured for nine months in seasoned French and American oak to keep the vibrant fruit centre-stage.
Expect layers of juicy raspberry and cherry, hints of cinnamon and five spice, and a floral lift of pot pourri. Velvety tannins, lively acidity and plush fruit all sit in harmony — this is classic McLaren Vale Grenache with genuine history behind it.
Boccaccio Cellars offers real time shipping rates at checkout. These are heavily subsidised rates directly from Australia Post and will vary depending on your postcode.
Unfortunately, due to the ever increasing costs of postage we are unable to offer free shipping any longer. Postal increases have seen the average box of wine range from $30-$60, which can represent up to 500% of the cost of the average bottle of wine.
Your postal costs are calculated on the following factors:
- Where in Australia you are shipping to (Where rural postcodes obviously attract a higher charge)
- What in Australia you are shipping (Beer and water for example, are calculated in real time without any additional subsidy. This is because the margins for these products are minimal). Dry goods attract a discounted flat fee of $12 per carton (Calculated by gross weight).
Pickups on all items are encouraged.
