In 2018, a cooler and slightly wetter than average winter set the stage for an exceptional grape-growing season. Vineyards enjoyed regular rainfall and warm temperatures throughout the spring, followed by a warm and dry summer that contributed to generally lower yields but outstanding fruit concentration.
The meticulous selection of vineyards prioritized achieving a harmonious balance between fruit weight and ripeness. Harvesting took place during the cool morning hours to preserve the grapes' optimal qualities. The carefully destemmed fruit was transferred to Potters and underwent a meticulous fermentation process at 25-30°C over 7-8 days.
Post-fermentation, the wine was pressed, racked, and then matured for 12 months in a combination of new and older hogshead barrels. Approximately 30% of the wine was reserved in tanks to retain the delightful fruity notes, later to be blended with the oak-matured portions. This thoughtful winemaking approach ensures a nuanced and well-balanced wine, capturing the essence of the exceptional 2018 growing season.
