Mystery Bourgogne Tonnerre Chardonnay 2022

This is northern Burgundy Chardonnay with the volume turned up: ripe and generous, yet driven by the cool, stony precision that makes this corner of France so compelling.

Bourgogne Tonnerre lies in the Armançon Valley, not far from Chablis. Chardonnay grows here on pale, rocky slopes of Kimmeridgian marl and limestone, the same ancient geological seam responsible for the region’s distinctive mineral character.

The wine was fermented in stainless steel, then rested for at least six months on fine lees. There is no heavy oak to get in the way—just pure fruit, gentle texture and a clear expression of its limestone terroir.

Candied lemon, quince and orchard fruit lead the aroma, with almond, delicate florals and a subtle note of smoked limestone emerging in the glass. The palate is supple and lively, carrying fresh citrus and ripe fruit into a long, clean finish marked by saline, stony freshness.

There is enough generosity here for roast chicken or creamy seafood, and enough energy for oysters, sashimi, grilled fish, asparagus and fresh cheeses. Serve at around 10–12°C and give it a few minutes in the glass.

The producer stays under wraps, but the pedigree is easy to see: authentic, mineral-driven white Burgundy that usually retails for $55.
